The City of Wilmore will host its “Salute to Service” event from June 11 through June 13, 2026, at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center, located at 100 Veterans Drive. The event is part of a broader series of milestones, recognizing America’s 250th birthday, Wilmore’s 150th anniversary, the 35th anniversary of the Thomson Hood Veterans Center, and the 25th anniversary of 9 11.
This multi-day community event will feature several nationally recognized memorials, including a 360-foot Vietnam Wall Memorial, the Cost of Freedom Memorial, and the Global War on Terror Memorial. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view Huey helicopters, military vehicles, and enjoy family-friendly activities, food, and educational experiences.
On June 11, you’re invited to join a special escort that will accompany the traveling memorials through Nicholasville and Wilmore before arriving at the Veterans Center. The event will also be open to the public on June 12 and June 13, offering attendees the chance to engage with veterans, hear personal stories, and learn more about the nation’s military history.
A key highlight of the event will take place on June 13, when 250 veterans, including prisoners of war and those missing in action, will be formally recognized and honored alongside their families.
Veterans who wish to be included in the recognition ceremony are encouraged to register at Wilmore.org or by scanning the event QR code. For additional information, follow @WilmoresSaluteToService on Facebook and Instagram, visit Wilmore.org/salutetoservice, or email WimoreSaluteToService@gmail.com.
