PUBLIC NOTICE

MERGER OF NORTH JESSAMINE TAXING DISTRICT INTO THE JESSAMINE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT

Dear Residents,

The Jessamine County Fire District Chief, in collaboration with the Jessamine County Fire District Board, would like to inform you of an important change regarding fire protection services in our community. We are in the process of merging the North Jessamine Taxing District into the Jessamine County Fire District.

This merger follows the recent tax assessment for the North Jessamine Taxing District, where the tax rate was reduced to 0%. As a result, the Jessamine County Fire District will assume responsibility for providing fire protection services to the area previously served by the North Jessamine Taxing District. Please be assured that there will be no disruption to fire protection services for residents in this area. This merger will help streamline our services and ensure continued safety for all those living within the newly merged boundaries.

Key Information Regarding the Merger:

  • No Change in Services: Fire protection services will continue seamlessly without interruption.
  • Tax Implications: Property within the North Jessamine Taxing District will not be responsible for any outstanding debts incurred by the district prior to the merger, with the exception of any remaining balance related to firefighting equipment purchases.
  • Public Notice and Participation: In accordance with KRS 75.020, notice of this merger will be published through the proper channels. We invite public input and will hold a hearing to discuss the merger. The hearing details, including the time and place, will be announced soon. We encourage you to participate if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Service Area Boundary Updates: As mandated by KRS 75.420, the Jessamine County Fire District will update and file the service area boundary maps to reflect the new merged territory.

Additional Information on Public Objections and Petition Process:

  • Fifty-one percent (51%) or more of the property owners of the territory sought to be merged into one district may, at any time before the date fixed in the notice, submit a written petition to the county clerk objecting to the merger of the districts. If a petition is filed, the county clerk will notify the trustees of the fire protection districts or volunteer fire protection districts and the county judge/executive.
  • The county judge/executive will schedule a hearing regarding the petition and will give public notice as to the date, time, and place of the hearing. If, after the hearing, the county judge/executive determines that failing to merge the territories would materially hinder the functioning of the fire protection districts or volunteer fire department districts, and adversely affect the residents of the area, the judge/executive may enter an order approving the merger.
  • Any aggrieved party may file an action in Circuit Court to contest the county judge/executive’s decision regarding the merger of the fire protection districts or volunteer fire department districts.

Meeting Details:

The meeting to complete the merger will be held on May 12th, during the regularly scheduled Jessamine County Fire District Meeting at Station 1, located at 1310 South Main Street, Nicholasville, KY 40356. The meeting will begin at 4:30 PM.

We encourage all property owners and interested individuals to review the service area changes and participate in the upcoming public hearing. Should you have any questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Jessamine County Fire District Office at 859-885-9221, or visit our website at www.jessaminefire.com.
